Jason’s Legacy

Jason had two great dreams. One was to serve his country as a United States Marine. The other was to become a published author. Throughout the years, he began writing several books, but the lasting effects of PTSD, together with the alcohol and marijuana dependence that followed, prevented him from bringing those manuscripts to completion.

After Jason’s passing, I made a promise that his dream would not end with him. That promise became The Cost of Courage: A Mother’s Story.

What began as a mother’s promise to fulfill her son’s dream became something far greater. It became a way to preserve Jason’s voice, honor his courage, and shed light on the invisible wounds too many veterans carry long after their military service ends.

At first, I believed I was writing this book simply to honor my son. As the pages came together, I realized it had become something much larger. It became an opportunity to help others understand the lasting effects of military service, the heartbreaking realities of PTSD and addiction, and the profound impact these struggles have on the families who love someone living through them.

This book is not only Jason’s story. It is a tribute to every veteran whose battles did not end when military service was over, and to every parent, spouse, sibling, child, and friend who has searched for answers while standing beside someone they love.

My greatest hope is that no family walking this difficult road will ever feel as alone as I once did. If Jason’s story helps even one veteran feel understood, encourages one family to hold on to hope, or inspires one meaningful conversation about PTSD and recovery, then his legacy continues.

To further honor Jason’s life, 25% of the author’s royalties from The Cost of Courage: A Mother’s Story are being donated to the Wounded Warrior Project in Jason’s name. It is my hope that each donation extends Jason’s legacy by supporting veterans and reminding military families that they are not alone.

Jason served his country with courage. He loved deeply, cared deeply, and even through his struggles, he never lost the compassionate heart that defined him. This book is my way of ensuring that his voice, his dream, and his life continue to make a difference.

Jason’s story did not end with his life. It lives on through every reader who gains a deeper understanding of the challenges veterans and their families face, every family who finds comfort within these pages, and every donation made in his name.

This is Jason’s legacy.
