BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. - Florida author Sandra Pedroso has published The Cost of Courage: A Mother’s Story, a deeply personal memoir that chronicles the life of her son, Jason, a United States Marine whose return home from military service marked the beginning of a difficult battle with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance use.
More than a memoir, The Cost of Courage offers an intimate look at the often-unseen struggles faced not only by veterans but also by the families who love them. Written from a mother’s perspective, the book explores the emotional toll of watching a beloved son fight invisible wounds while honoring his courage, compassion, and enduring spirit.
Pedroso says she wrote the book for two deeply personal reasons: to fulfill Jason’s lifelong dream of becoming a published author and to help families better understand the lasting impact that military service can have long after a service member returns home.

About the Author
Sandra Pedroso is a Florida author and the daughter of Cuban immigrants. Her professional career included administrative leadership, corporate meeting planning, and human resources. Although she always enjoyed writing, she felt compelled to write The Cost of Courage to honor her son’s dream of becoming a writer and to bring greater understanding to the challenges faced by veterans and the families who love them. This is her first book.
